About Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy

THE JOURNEY

FROM TUPELO'S FIRST

JIU JITSU SCHOOL TO TJJA

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been growing in Tupelo since the early days of the sport in Northeast Mississippi. In 2007, Cody Floyd began training under Chris Gates and Mark Romano at Tupelo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the city's first Jiu Jitsu school.

Over the years, that small local Jiu Jitsu community continued to grow. Students became competitors, competitors became coaches, and more people throughout the area were introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, grappling and MMA.

In 2020, that journey entered a new chapter with the opening of Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy.

Today, TJJA continues that tradition with a team made up of beginners, longtime practitioners, kids, families, competitors and fighters—all sharing the same mats and helping build the next generation of Jiu Jitsu in Tupelo.
