Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
What is BJJ?
Brazilian Jiu–Jitsu focuses on getting an opponent to the ground in order to neutralize possible strength or size advantages through ground fighting techniques and submission holds involving joint-locks and chokeholds. On the ground, physical strength can be offset or enhanced through proper grappling techniques.
Why are we the best?
We have structure and focus heavily on the fundamentals. The majority of classes are taught by Our Head Instructor BJJ Black Belt Cody Floyd.
How do I get started?
You dive right in. There’s no good way to prepare yourself for this. Jiu Jitsu is unlike any other martial arts or sports you may have experience with. The good news is, everyone in the Jiu Jitsu community remembers what it was like their first day. Everyone is here to help you grow and get better. If my teammate gets stronger, I get stronger. Thats our philosophy.
Submission Wrestling is a combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling and Judo techniques. We also call this No Gi Jiu Jitsu. The difference in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling is that you do not wear the Gi (uniform) in Submission Wrestling.
Mixed Martial Arts
Cody Floyd is our lead MMA Instructor. Cody has coached multiple fight teams with impressive winning records. Our Academy has active Professional and Amateur MMA fighters. We also have MMA classes tailored to beginners.
I’ve been making trips to Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy preparing for an upcoming fight and I’m really impressed with this place. Very clean facility, quality mats and equipment. But more than anything, very knowledgeable, experienced coaches. I’ll be making many more trips back and if you are local to the area and looking to learn real self defense or to get in shape doing something practical, do yourself a favor and check this place out.Tyler Zombie Hill Pro MMA Fighter
Awesome place to train Jiu Jitsu or to just get in shape! The instructors are so knowledgeable. They make assertive efforts to cross train all over and help spread the sport. I would recommend this place to everyone!Jamie Houston Owner Summit Fighting Championship
Kids Class 5-13yr
The Kid’s Jiu Jitsu program at Tupelo Jiu Jitsu Academy is designed to instill confidence and self-discipline while improving balance, coordination, problem solving skills, and mental toughness. Classes include a warm-up, technical instruction, drills, games, and supervised sparring session. Students train with the Gi (uniform) on Monday’s and without the Gi (submission wrestling) on Wednesday’s. Thursdays are a mixture of Submission Wrestling/Striking and Self Defense. It’s important to understand how to control your opponent in a variety of ways, this is where traditional martial arts like Taekwondo, Karate ect.. have failed. Get your kids in Jiu Jitsu!!
